Mind reading machine

Crime investigators always have their ears open for information only a perpetrator could know—where a gun used in a murder was stashed, perhaps, or what wounds a stabbing inflicted. So imagine a detective asking a suspect about a killing, describing the crime scene to get the suspect to visualize the attack. The detective is careful not to mention the murder weapon. Once the suspect has conjured up the scene, the detective asks him to envision the weapon. Pay dirt: his pattern of brain activity screams “hammer” as loud and clear as if he had blurted it out.

International Loud Cussing SymposiumIn St. Charles, Missouri, officials are considering a bill which would ban profanity, table dancing, drinking contests, and any other type of indecent, profane or obscene music, literature, and entertainment in bars. They claim the law is needed to keep rowdy bar crowds in the historic downtown district under control.

They don’t seem to care that the behavior they find so reprehensible is taking place on private property. They also seem to be overlooking the undeniable fact that it’s none of their fucking business what anybody does on private property, as long as the property owner doesn’t mind.If people in that area aren’t careful, they’ll ban consuming alcohol in bars next.

Bar owners, needless to say, are opposed to the measure, saying it is a violation of their civil rights. Marc Rousseau, who owns a bar called R.T. Weilers, said, “We’re dealing with adults here once again and I don’t think it’s the city’s job or the government’s job to determine what we can and cannot play in our restaurant.”

Rousseau is absolutely correct.

St. Charles officials are obviously trying to take all the fun out of going to a bar. I’m not a big drinker at all, and while I did hit the bars regularly when I was young, I now only drink occasionally. However, the last time I went to a bar (on New Year’s Eve) people were hootin’ and hollerin’ and drinkin’ and cussin’, and a good time was had by all. I really don’t see what the problem is, except that city leaders seem to have an overly tight anal sphincter. What they really need is a good stiff drink to loosen that up.

There is no doubt that the proposed measure won’t withstand court scrutiny due to being overly broad and therefore not enforceable (not to mention being a violation of bar patrons’ and bar owners’ constitutional rights), but city officials don’t seem to mind that bar owners will be forced to spend money unnecessarily to challenge the law. Outrageous.

I am trying to make Cannoli WordPress more of a group blog. ElfNinosMom, please post some more articles. Other folks…please let me know in the comments if you would be interested in writing here.

I already have Michelle signed up to write here, and I’ve been writing at her blog too (lately, it seems more than she has been). Michelle, I hope you’re doing OK…I feel a little old to be saying this, but “holla at yo boy.”

Last month I started blogging at Crazy for Liberty. We are also looking for some new people to write there, as well as at Last Free Voice.

In case Last Free Voice goes down we are getting everything backed up at the old Last Free Voice WordPress. Several people who are signed up at LFV have complained that LFV is not letting them post. If this is the case, please post your article(s) at LFV wordpress and let me know. If you don’t have a log-in there I will get you one.

We need more guests for the Steve Kubby Show. Comment if you are interested. Slots open starting Jan 28.

New Radical Caucus lists, website in the works

Due to different needs and expectations of what people want from our
lists we now have broken up the LP Radical Caucus list into three lists

This list is for open discussion between radical & reformer LP
members. It is intended to be a space where the debate is unmoderated
and all ideas from both camps are encouraged.

This is the open discussion list for the LP Radical Caucus.
However it is still for internal caucus discussion, not debate with

This is the working group for the Libertarian Party Radical Caucus.
This list is here to facilitate development of strategy and the
accomplishing of specific tasks to strengthen the Libertarian Party as
a radical political party. This is not a general discussion list about
libertarianism or radicalism. If you are looking for a discussion of
radical libertarianism, please join the other two groups. Although no
mailing list can be considered confidential, users are asked not to
crosspost from this list without explicit permission from a post’s author.

If you are interested in helping us with designing a new Radical
Caucus website (or a new Kubby website, unconnected with the Radical
Caucus) please email me at KUBBY2008 at GMAIL.com

-I still need people for the platform discussion. So far Tom Knapp has commented in favor of the WSPP, and Alex Peak has spoken up in favor of Restore04.com. In Third Party Watch, Susan Hogarth has said that she will post some of her comments from the Libertarian Radicals and Reformers Debate over to my blog.

So far that has not happened, so I still need either Susan, Alex, or someone else to represent the Restore04 side, and ANYONE to represent the current platform committee draft. For the radio show, we have agreement in principle from Tom Knapp and David Nolan to represent their sides, but no one for the committee draft.
