From Steve Gordon
Dear libertarian-minded folks,
If you weren’t already aware, a recent Cato analysis indicated that libertarians constitute a significant portion of the swing vote – even larger than the fabled ‘soccer moms’ and ‘NASCAR dads.’ While their work took a look at who libertarians are and how they voted in the past, we’d like to do something a bit different.
LibertarianLists is sponsoring an online survey to determine the presidential preferences of libertarians for the 2008 presidential elections. It also asks about various political issues to see how they will play in the upcoming election. It asks about name recognition of obscure candidates as well as favorability factors for most of the known or anticipated presidential candidates.
We expect a fairly large sample of respondents (in the tens of thousands). However, we’d like to include as many survey participants as possible in order to obtain the most accurate results possible. If this first survey is successful, we will be continuing the survey process at a regular basis.
The baseline results of the survey will be distributed via the main e-mail list at LibertarianLists.com. Survey participants will be added to the list (and leave with a click at any time) so they may obtain the final survey response. LibertarianLists is a low-volume political news service for libertarian issues, organizations and candidates. (BTW, the monthly roundup will return soon… likely with the results of this survey, next week)
Crosstabs (statistics) from the survey will be made available to the media, researchers and various political campaigns and organizations.
As a libertarian, you probably wish to ensure that your opinions on the issues of the day and the candidates involved are taken into consideration.

P.S. Please feel free to pass this e-mail to your libertarian e-mail lists and groups, or post on your website or blog. Each additional respondent to this survey increases the accuracy of the results. Thanks!
