Thanks for joining us tonight! We’re going to get started in just a few minutes.
cory says to (20:01):
This is a moderated chat. Please submit your question only once and we’ll see if Wayne can
get to it. If we are not able to get to your question, please submit it directly to the
candidate at a later time.

Opening Statement from Wayne Allyn Root:
Hello everyone. This is Wayne. I hope to be your LP Presidential nominee. I look forward to
meeting all of you at LP State Conventions from January through May…at the State
Chairman’s Conference here iin my hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada in February…and certainly
at the LP Convention in Denver on Memorial Day weekend. I believe I was BORN for this role
with the LP. My career began in 1964 at age 3 handing out campaign literature for Barry
Goldwater (i
Wayne says to (20:02):
Lets start talking. Ask away
susanhogarth says (20:03):
How much money have you donated to the LP this year?
MnMtm says to (20:03):
Could you sum up for us your views on immigration law reform in this country?
cory says to (20:04):
Lot’s of questions, so please hold off for now. We’ll get to them one by one.
Wayne says to (20:05):
Well I know some LPers support open borders. That view would be fine if we had a law
guaranteeing that immigrants could not use govt services or accept entitlements. But that is
not the case. So in reality unchallenged immigration with no limits would be a disaster for
LPers- we unfortunately get overwhelmed with welfare and govt spending…not to mention
people guaranteed to vote for liberal giveaway programs.
randrews says to (20:05):
If nominated, how successful can Wayne Allen Root’s campaign be for our party?
randrews says to (20:06):
Pardon the name mis-spell.
Wayne says to (20:06):
So I support getting control of the borders (as Ron Paul) does…then only after we have
control, I’d welcome an opportunity to give a STRICT pathway to citizenship. But we must
scontrol the borders first.
kim b says to (20:06):
Do you have a religous affiliation and what role would it play in your service as president?
Wayne says to (20:08):
I think I can be very successful. I’ll get your LP message out like no LP candidate ever
before- I am a MEDIA MAGNET. Just today I was on Fox Business News. Just last week I was on
Michael Medved Show to over 3 million listeners. LP has never had that kind of media
exposure on a national level this quickly and I’m not even your nominee yet. The message has
to get out to be heard and only then can we achieve success. I’m your man with media
credibility.
AYNARCHIST666 says to (20:09):
what would u do about the federal reserve bank and the irs?
Wayne says to (20:11):
As I said on a TV interview in New Hampshire this morning…I’m VERY good for LP because I
destroy the image of LP as being anti-religion. I’m a very spiritual person who has written
books about my belief in the power of God and prayer. I am a “completed Jew” which means I
took Jesus as my savior about 17 years ago. I believe the job of government is NOT to
support any religion…or stuff it down anyone’s throat. I will protect the rights and
freedom of speech of all religions
RobertEdwardJ25 says to (20:12):
Did you tell Medved you disagreed with his characterization of us as “Loser-tarians”?
Wayne says to (20:12):
And equally protect all those who do not believe in God or religion. Freedom of speech and
liberty belongs equally to Christians and Atheists.
Wayne says to (20:13):
I fought with Medved VICIOUSLY and defended LP vigoriously. I pointed out that LP wion 20%
of all local races in USA in past election. Americans desperately want a third party.
kim b says to (20:13):
As libertarians, aren’t we opposed to the overabundance of government services. Wouldn’t
the solution be to change that instead of restricting immigration. Sounds like you are
making an end run around the problem.
susanhogarth says (20:14):
Perhaps you missed the first question: how much have you ontributed to the LP this year?
Wayne says to (20:16):
I’m a bit lost on that one. We are…Ron Paul is…Barry Goldwater was…and I most
definetly am opposed to overabundance of govt services. I stand for limited government,
greatly reduced spending, reduced entitlements, welfare, food stamps,; and greatly reduced
taxes. Your income is your property. NOT the governments…or the IRS’s…or politician’s.
It’s yours.
CHUCK424 says to (20:16):
WWHAT WOULD YOU DO ABOUT TAX REFOR
Wayne says to (20:16):
I want less government. You can’t solve the deficit or lower taxes unless you cut govt waste
and entitlements.
jnj7880 says to (20:17):
What are your thoughts on bringing about a nation-wide CCW permit? If my driver’s license
is recognised in all 50 states, why not my CCW from VA?
cory says to (20:18):
CCW = Concealed Carry Weapon permit
Wayne says to (20:19):
Well as far as tax reform…Barry Goldwater said it best. You must FIRST cut spending. That
goes hand in hand with tax cuts. As far as my tax program I would support dramatic changes
to the system- my personal favorites are: a 12% flat tax…elimination of all death
taxes…and a ZERO capital gains tax (on interest and dividends) for anyone over 55 years
old…what a boon to the economy…what a reward for a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice
for your family. I also support some form of priviti
Wayne says to (20:19):
privitization of Social Security
Mister says to (20:20):
if nominated, you will need to gain support of ALOT of non-libertarians. Will you be able to
educate joe and jane citizen about statism and authoritarianism?
Wayne says to (20:21):
The so-called “Fair Tax” is also something I’d consider- but I’d need to study it’s benefits
versus flat tax which works so well in former Soviet Republics.
cory says to (20:22):
Guys, Wayne’s a few behind on the questions. My fault. I’ll allow him to get caught up.
CCW question is next I believe.
Wayne says to (20:23):
I’m the best man to get you non Libertarians. I’m a mainstream Libertarian who will attract
voters from many places- Reagan Republicans, independents, blue dog Democrats. I am fiscally
conservative, socially liberal, strong on national defense. That describes about 60% of
electorate in polls. I am also a Ronald Reagan-like communicator. I know how to SELL what I
believe in on national TV and radio- where I’ve worked my entire adult life.
Shawn in MT says to (20:24):
on legalizaition of pot, you said your for it but want to tax it.. Do we need another tax?
Wayne says to (20:25):
Sorry I lost a question. As far as guns, I’m pro gun. PERIOD. I support the constitution.
Enough said. I own a gun. It is to protect my family. I support your right to as well. A
private citizen with a gun saved hundreds at that Colorado church on Sunday. Guns SAVE lives
every day.
randrews says to (20:26):
and doesn’t weed cost enough already? (sorry, couldn’t stop myself)
Wayne says to (20:28):
I said I support leaglization of medicinal marijuana just like it has been successfully done
in California. I am NOT a tax person. I’m an anti-tax person. But guess what? I am a
realist. In the real world, the only way that Nevada (my state) legalized gambling and
prostitution is by taxing it. But VERY low taxes. And it worked. We are the freedom state.
But prostitution and gambling pay so many taxes and pay for so many govt programs…we have
ZERO state income tax, zero business tax, zero
susanhogarth says (20:28):
Perhaps the question you lost was: How much have you contributed to the LP this year?
chuckest says to (20:28):
Will you do anything during your campaign that will still be around four years from the
election?
Wayne says to (20:28):
zero inheritance taxes and low property taxes. So I only fgo along with a LOW tax if it’s
the only way to get something legalized and it lowers the taxes for rest of society.
cory says to (20:29):
Guys, for those who have just logged in, we’re in a moderated chat. Please only ask the
question once as we’re already backed up a bit.
Wayne says to (20:30):
I’m startingf a 16 year campaign – just like Ronald Reagan. He started a campaign for
President in 1964 at GOP Convention…and finally won in 1980. I think if we stick together
and fight hard…we will one day win the White or U.S. Senate seat. I hope to be that guy.
FM 21-105 says to cory (20:30):
Wayne, you’ve said on your website you were for the seperation of Church and State, yet you
want to keep “In God We trust” on the currency and “One Nation under god” in the pledge.
How is this fair to the non-religious? Would you support putting “One Nation Under God and
Muhammad” in the pledge?
Wayne says to (20:31):
By the way, I have good bloodlines. My dad was one of original founders of New York
Conservative Party and elected the first EVER third party U.S. Senator from NY- James
Buckley. It can be done. I was there!
Wayne says to (20:34):
Guys the LP will never win elections if you support taking God out of our U.S. agenda. Do
you see the polls? over 95% of U.S. citizens and voters believe in God and want God to
remain on our currency…in our pledge. Taking it out is political suicide and will insure
LP gets 300,000 votes for President. I will protect your righgts as Atheiest…just as I
fight for Christians and Jews. PERIOD. Everyone is in my tent.
paul says to (20:34):
Have your views changed during the campaign? If so which ones and why?
Wayne says to (20:37):
I don’t think I’ve changed much during the campaign…but my views have evolved over the
last 2 years radically from being a lifelong Libertarian Republican to a true blue
Libertarian. If you go to my site ROOT4America…you’ll see my views on 90% to 95% of issues
are pretty darn Libertarian. What’s great- is they always have been. I just didn’t know it.
I’m the perfect guy to convert millions of Republicans…and yes religious God loving ones
too!
Marshall says to (20:37):
Where do you stand on life issues – such as when life begins in a constitutionally protected
state – and under what circumstances it can legally be ended?
Wayne says to (20:39):
First of all I’m a firm believer in States’ Rights- so abortion is not the province of the
federal government. It is a states’ rights issue- just as gay rights, online gaming, right
to die (assisted suicide), legal medicinal marijuana should be. Leave it up to the wisdom of
citizens in each state.
LibReformer says to (20:39):
You charachterize your dad as a WWII navigator and butcher in your book. You call yourself
an ‘SOB” son of a butcher. Yet your book didn’t mention anything about the NY Conservative
Party although it mentions the GOP here and there.
Wayne says to (20:42):
I wrote a 242 page book with I believe about 65,000 words. But the original manuscript had
over 100,000 words. Much of what I considered important was left out by editors and
publisher. My dad’s conservative party background was one chapter that was edited out. But
his story is EASILY verified. He founded party with J. Daniel Mahoney- who became a NY State
Supreme Court Justice. His son is a famous political consultant Kieran Mahoney. If anyone
wants proof that can easily be arranged
yourmanstan says to (20:43):
wayne, one of the most frustrating things as a libertarian is to hear the ‘wasted vote’
excuse. i think your approach will definitely draw mainstream interest, but the 16yr
campaign idea somewhat feeds the ‘wasted vote’ excuse. how will you convince voters to ROOT
instead of boo?
cory says to (20:44):
For those who joined late, we’re moderated now.
Wayne says to (20:44):
I said it on Michael Medved when he brought up not only “wasted vote” but Michael believes I
will singlehandedly elect Hillary by taking millions of votes away from GOP
kim b says to MnMtm (20:44):
How would you prevent presidential abuse of the line item veto while using it to “cut the
pork”?
Wayne says to (20:45):
I said that isn’t my worry. If GOP wants those votes…they should move towards
Libertarian…cut spending…cut government…get away from religious right extreme social
issues. My job is to move the national agenda towards Libertarian and FREEDOM.
KevinB says to (20:45):
Wayne, why do you prefer a flat tax to the FairTax?
Wayne says to (20:47):
When you say “abuse”…all politics leads to abuse of people and taxpayers. There are no
guarantees in life (or politics). I’d rather err on side of saving taxpayers…cutting
spending…deleting wasteful earmarks. Line Item can do that. But it isn’t perfect. Thats
why we have to elect fiscally conservative leaders.
Wayne says to (20:48):
First of all, my fingers are running out of steam. So bare with me.
cory says to (20:49):
Guys, the Fair tax/Flat tax question will be the last one.
Wayne says to (20:51):
Fair Tax- jury is still out. I need to study. Here is my gut reaction…I hear taxpayers
complain BITTERLY about income taxes, property taxes, FICA taxes. no one ever complains
about sales taxes. It’s a stealth tax. Consumers don’t notice. Thats bad. I want YOU rto
feel the pain. There can be no protests or revolution without pain. Sheep march to cliff
without pain. Sales tax is not felt- it’s “part of the price.” Thats bad in my opinion.
Second you’ll never get it passed- requires undoing
cory says to (20:51):
Wayne, thanks for joining us tonight. If anyone here needs more info, where should they go
or whom should they contact?
Wayne says to (20:52):
undoing amendment to constitution…virtually impossible. But flat tax can happen overnight.
Third, the fair tax adds 25% to cost of EVERYTHING…including homes. That would badly
damage entire USA real eastate market. Jury is out. But I could be talked into supporting if
it’s best alternative and gets rid of IRS.

Looks like some of my questions did not get past moderation.
Susan has posted an easier to read version. Here’s a copy.
Intro by Susan Hogarth:
Below is the text of an LP-hosted live chat on Dec 11 with LP candidate for pres Wayne Root. This was captured from Susan Hogarth’s computer. I am not sure of how the moderation worked, but I am guessing that Root never saw my three instances of the same question even though they show on my screen (“How much did you donate to the LP this year?”) because it was never acknowledged. I am also startled about the lack of questions regarding the war, so I think that questions rejected by the moderator (except for my own) did not show up on the screen. I suppose it’s possible that no one asked about the war, but I consider that unlikely.
The chat room was available to 100 people at once, I saw somewhere between 40-45 at any given time. I’ve removed the notifications of people coming and going from the chat room and some chitchat before and after the session with Root, but not removed any of the moderated portion of the chat. I’ve made the text where Root is writing blue, and where Shane Cory (moderating) writes red.

excuse. i think your approach will definitely draw mainstream interest, but the 16yr
campaign idea somewhat feeds the ‘wasted vote’ excuse. how will you convince voters to ROOT
instead of boo?
cory says to (20:44):

Thanks, Wayne. Next week we have Mike Jingozian.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Wayne! G-d bless!
kim b says to MnMtm (20:54):
Cory, Thanks to you and the LNC for providing a real time opportunity to talk to a
candidate.
cory says to Starchild (20:54):
I’ll let you guys chat freely now!

Susan’s questions for Shane:
Shane,
Thanks for hosting/moderating the Root chat. I posted my version of
the transcript here:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd7jxqpw_126f5ppmpgx
I have a few questions about the session:
1) My assumption is that only moderator-approved question appeared on
each screen, except that each questioner’s questions were visible to
him even if they did not get through moderation. Are these assumptions
correct?
2) Will you be releasing a full transcript of the chat?
3) Will you be releasing a list of all the questions that were asked,
including those that did not make it through the moderation process?
4) Can you give some idea of the criteria used for moderation? (that
is, were certain subjects disallowed by Root’s request, or were you
making all the decisions, and if so, on what basis?).
5) Can you give an idea of the total number of questions asked (an
exact number would be difficult because of repetition from people like
me, who thought their questions were simply not making it through, but
an estimate would be helpful)?
Thanks again for your time and effort for this, and I look forward to
receiving your reply. As you’ll note from the CC line, I am sharing
these questions with fellow Libertarians, and I hope that you will
consent to have your reply shared as well.
