Does this actually surprise anyone?
The Central Intelligence Agency in 2005 destroyed at least two videotapes documenting the interrogation of two Al Qaeda operatives in the agency’s custody, a step it took in the midst of Congressional and legal scrutiny about the C.I.A’s secret detention program, according to current and former government officials.
The videotapes showed agency operatives in 2002 subjecting terror suspects — including Abu Zubaydah, the first detainee in C.I.A. custody — to severe interrogation techniques. They were destroyed in part because officers were concerned that tapes documenting controversial interrogation methods could expose agency officials to greater risk of legal jeopardy, several officials said.
The C.I.A. said today that the decision to destroy the tapes had been made “within the C.I.A. itself,” and they were destroyed to protect the safety of undercover officers and because they no longer had intelligence value. The agency was headed at the time by Porter J. Goss. Through a spokeswoman, Mr. Goss declined this afternoon to comment on the destruction of the tapes.
So they destroyed evidence to save their own asses. I’d be far more surprised if they didn’t do it, to be quite honest. The CIA believes that it is a law unto itself, and always has.
I doubt it was really done to protect the safety of undercover officers, though. It was undoubtedly done to cover up evidence of war crimes.

The C.I.A. covering their asses again, disgraceful!
Paulie, what’s up with lastfreevoice? Sorry its off topic, but I’m dyiung to tell Milnes that Karen Kwiatkowski is endorsing Ron Paul. I’m giddy to tell him this. It’s like Christmas came early.
Nick,
I don’t know what’s up with LFV but I would love to know.
I was hoping it would become the next Hammer of Truth and now I guess it has, but in a different way?
I guess we could go back to using the wordpress site but it would be a shame to lose everything that was posted since February.
BTW this article and the last one were by ENM, not me. I’m not sure how to get wordpress to include that. Anyone know?
Last two articles actually.
I don’t know what’s up with LFV either. I sent a note to Adam and Stu several days ago to let them know it was down, but never heard back. Maybe they just need to put more money on the account.
I’m not sure how to include the author’s name on posts. I’ll see if I can figure it out.
Paulie, I just wrote a new post on my wordpress. I’d like to hear your input, since you seem to travel a lot.
OK, I’m on there.
Nick – check out 3rd Party watch (first link in my blogroll) if you want to talk to Milnes.
Paulie, I think you need to change layouts. I don’t see anything to adjust this one to show the author.
You see that in another layout?
It’s in my layout. Just experiment with them, and choose one which has that option built in.
