Work is going OK, but I’m slammed and have poor computer access, so I haven’t had time to blog.

Hey paulie, I just noticed your blog was #3 on the WordPress “fastest growing” list. I bet your traffic just hit a major spike that’s gonna mess up your BlogStats chart scale.

High point was about 900 hits in a day, and over 1100 reads on this one post alone so far.

That depends on Paul’s decision, assuming he did not win the Republican nomination. Paul running as an independent candidate would have a shot in a general election against 2 undesirables like Clinton and Giuliani. Kube would not have a realistic shot.

If Paul runs independent the Kube’s wise decision would really be obvious if he were promoting real change for liberty sake: do not run.

If Dr. Paul does NOT win the GOP nomination, what good reason is there for Kubby stepping aside? He says he still feels he’s the best candidate for the LP nomination. Does that mean his ego is getting in the way?

And a great many will not. Given those circumstances Kubby will face the real test of giving up his ambition for the greater good of the cause.

Bets that his ego won’t allow him to step aside?

There being a good chance Dr. Paul will not win the GOP nomination, many of Paul’s supporters may well end up voting for Kubby. Perhaps Dr. Paul will end up endorsing Kubby – I’m pretty damn sure he won’t endorse Giuliani or Hillary.

Regarding the few issues of disagreement between Kubby and Paul, I’m interested to hear a defense of the claim that Dr. Paul doesn’t support “equal rights for non-heterosexuals”. While it’s true that this is not a constituency that Dr. Paul is likely to put much effort into courting, I firmly believe that he will ALWAYS defend the notion that ALL individuals, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, etc… have the same natural rights. Now, some might bring up the “gay marriage” topic, but I suspect he, like myself, would contend that marriage, in the current government-granted sense, is not truly a “right”. Whatever Dr. Paul’s personal opinions are regarding gay couples, I’m quite certain that he would never support legislation inhibiting any sort of voluntary social arrangement.

But I think Ron Paul see’s a need for temporary border security. Especially as long as we have the entitlement system that attracts illegal immigrants. I firmly believe that if not for the entitlement system, you can have open borders. At the same time, I realize that they are a huge drain on taxpayers as long as the social programs exist.

But I’m very glad you are looking at the goal of liberty instead of bringing up the party. I have been somewhat disappointed in the LP and sticking to the party, instead of the goal. I always thought the LP should know the horrors of people not leaving party lines better than most.

If RP doesn’t win the GOP nomination, you’ll be way up there on my LP choice, it takes a big man to stand up for the goals over his own interests, and I like that in a president. I will no doubt vote for the LP if RP doesn’t get in the general election.

I personally have never worked on a campaign before, this will be a learning experience that hopefully I can use for the Libertarian Party in the future.

As of 1936, the Soviet Union and the Comintern (which was by then just an extension of Stalin’s will) were supporting what was called a “united front” strategy. Communist Parties in various countries were instructed to ally themselves with the most “progressive” parties with a reasonable chance of success. They also infiltrated those parties. McCarthyism was an excess … but there were in fact Soviet spies in the US government, and many of them got there because in the late 1930s they had taken their Communism “underground” and started being respectable Democrats on orders from Moscow.

Also, the Spanish Civil War was getting started, and Stalin wanted the US to either stay completely out of it or come in on the side of the Republic. He also anticipated likely war with Hitler, and wanted a “progressive” and interventionist US, not a “conservative” and isolationist US if that happened. f course, later he negotiated a non-aggression pact with Hitler, and overnight the CPUSA became isolationist until Hitler invaded the USSR, when they became interventionists overnight again.

Politics is fucking complicated, isn’t it? Some of the most prominent “neoconservatives” got their start as Trotskyites. Ronald Reagan was a long-time Democrat and labor union president. The only constant is that George W. Bush was always a gibbering nut.

I am a past financial supporter of the late Harry Browne in two of his runs for President, so I’m not a complete stranger to the concerns of a “3rd” party campaign. You had a lot to mull over and I am grateful for your final decision.
